Harivanga mango is one of the most delicious mangoes in Bangladesh. Harivanga mango originated in the village called Tekani in Khoragach union of Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur district. Nafal Uddin Paikar, a tree-loving successful farmer of Khoragach Union, was the first to plant this mango.

The history behind the naming of this mango

As Tekani and its surrounding areas are drought-prone areas, separate arrangements had to be made for watering the saplings. Nafal Uddin Paika made a filter with earthen pots under the tree to water this mango tree. One day someone will break this earthen pot. Then automatically this tree is recognized as Harivanga mango tree.

Characteristics of Haribhanga Mango

Harivanga mangoes are round in shape with a slightly elongated appearance. The top of this mango is round and the bottom is a little thin. Its colour is green when raw and slightly reddish when ripe. Harivanga mangoes are very sweet and aromatic. Smooth-skinned, thin-skinned, very juicy, small and pulpy, these mangoes can be enjoyed by everyone from young children to the elderly. The sweetness of Harivanga mango is 19.8. This mango ripens towards the end of the mango season. The taste and characteristics of this mango are slightly different from other mangoes. The mango has to be plucked from the tree in a slightly firm state. A special feature of this mango is that when it ripens a little more, the part near the pulp inside becomes softer. So it is more fun to eat the mango when it is a little less ripe. Another special feature of this mango is that the skin does not rot easily even if it is crushed. The weight of one mango is 200-500 grams.
